The LBHS Drama Department, Ms. Alyssa Zorra and Mr. Dillon Nelson will be putting on Sherk the Musical.
The dates for this musical will be on May 31 at 7 p.m., June 1 at 2 p.m., June 1 at 7 p.m., June 2 at 12 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before the show. The musical is about one and a half hour to two hours long. Tickets are $10 without ASB and $7 with ASB. The show will be held at PHS Theater.
To decide the different parts they held auditions to decide the different cast members which were voted on by the panel. All of the solo, singing parts, and cast were decided by the panel. They had so many good people that they decided to make two different casts.
Ms. Zorra, Drama Club teacher stated, “I love all of our cast, and they have been great to work with. I will miss all of my seniors.”
The cast is working hard on preparing for the show. They have rehearsal four days a week and they practice different scenes at different times, so not everyone is there at the same time. During rehearsals they are practicing dancing, acting, and singing.
Ms. Zorra and Mr. Nelson have many different people helping from choir and Mrs. Danielle Canvas, Band teacher, and a number of people in the band are in the production.
Adrixi Torres, a member of the cast, stated, “I am a bit nervous and sad because this is my last high school musical/play, but I also feel good about it.”
Sherk the Musical is a fairy tale in which an ogre gets the girls. Curses are turned over and dragons and donkeys fall in love. The ogre who is called Sherk lives alone in his swamp even in this world mocks him and he doesn’t care. It doesn’t stay like that as a group of fairytale characters change his world. There will be the Gingerbread man, the Three Littles Pigs, Pinocchio and many more characters.
Shrek the Musical is a comedy fairytale/fantasy. The first musical was produced in 2008 but DreamWorks Animated Film who created it in 2001 and the book by William Steig. Music is by Jeanine Tesori and the book and lyrics are by David Lindsay-Abaire.
