Tigers have reached week five of the 2024-2025 school year! Things are starting up and everyone is getting ready for another year of fun and learning.
Seniors had a busy year prior to the first day. Some seniors were able to claim and paint a parking spot to use for the year in the student parking lot. Then seniors prepared for their first day on August 12 by coming together for Senior Sunrise and the Senior Walk-In events just before classes started.
Class schedule changes are a huge part of the beginning of the school year, leaving students scrambling around campus and the school’s counselors busy with attending to the students’ frequent visits and changes.
There was a big campus change this year. The first week changes included the newly installed metal detectors. Security, administrators, and students had to figure out the system and as a result, many students were getting to class late because of the long lines.
With a new year is the newness to students and staff new to our campus. Administrators and teachers prepare to help students learn and enjoy their school year. The campus is crowded with a population of 1,557. This includes 355 seniors, 398 juniors, 365 sophomores, and 439 freshmen.
Back to School Night granted the opportunity for students and parents to meet their teachers, explore the campus, and meet their administrators on August 27. This also included a presentation for seniors about important dates for things like prom or Grad Nite.
The first school dance, the Freshman Reception dance was a big hit on September 7. This time allowed students to get together, visit, and play games.
Now that students are in week 5, deficiencies for students’ grades teetering on failing marks are going out to parents to discuss and help their students to help improve their grades.
The momentum of the school year is going smoothly so far. Using the metal detectors has become a much easier task since there aren’t any incredibly long lines anymore, and football season is here! The students also had their biggest rivalry games for football against Dos Palos and Pacheco, both resulting in a disappointment. But the players are ready to finish their season as well as all the Fall sports as the year begins.
“My first month of school wasn’t necessarily bad, it was as good as a month in school could be. I enjoyed spending time with my friends and getting used to my new schedule, and was interested in the new material. I think it was a great month to start off my last year of high school,” said Maribel Cortez Hernandez (12).
Everyone is gradually getting comfortable with their new classes. Work is picking up. Projects are assigned. The weather is cooling down finally. We’re off to a good year!
