The girls tennis team started off the season strong with a win against Golden Valley ending in 9-0 on September 5. The team had 3 pre-season matches against Mountain House, Dos Palos and Oakdale followed by the All Classic Fresno Tournament where they took 2nd place. The girls showcased their skills with rackets in hand after working hard all summer and learning from their mistakes.
Kambria Moore (11) has been playing since her freshman year working her way up the ladder to 5 singles and won against golden valley 6-4 6-3. Moore feels that the season has gone well so far and believes that it’s going to be a good season. Moore stated, “Overall the season has gone really well, everyone is adjusting to their new spots so everyone is trying to get comfortable where they are playing but the team is a good group of people.”
The girls on the team have many goals for the season. Moore said her personal goal is to make it to section finals again and to learn new skills and just to play better overall. She plans to achieve these goals by showing up to practice and putting in the work and to learn from her mistakes.
Zoey Wooten (11) and Grace Orozco (10) are the number 1 doubles team and have been doing well so far. It is Wooten’s third year playing and Orozco’s first and both have been succeeding very well. They two are a good match and enjoy being each others partners and have had a friendship years prior to tennis. Wooten stated, “Grace and I play well together and have been friends for a while now, and she’s just a good partner overall and is always there to uplift and support me.”
With this year being Orozco’s first year playing, she was unsure about the sport and how the season was going to go, but tennis has caught her by surprise. Orozco stated, “Going in, I didn’t expect to think of the outcome. Now the girls are very nice, welcoming, and encouraging. The whole team is very supportive.”
Overall the team has had a great start to the season winning pre-season matches and winning league matches as well. Although it’s just the beginning, it’s looking bright for the team even with the switch from WAC to the CCC league.
