At Los Banos High School, there is an abundance of clubs available for any student at that school to join. One of these clubs is the Creative Writing Club which offers students a chance to express their creativity with others who share that common interest of writing.
There are many different activities such as writing prompts where each week students are given a set of words and themes to write a short story using these elements. It strengthens creative ideas to come more naturally the more frequently one does them. The club is more than just writing; it’s a community that inspires creativity and cultivates a passion for storytelling.
The Club led by President, Alessandra Ortiz and Vice President, Ryan Sandoval, meets weekly and allows students to get adjusted to the environment and the students around them, giving an idea of what the other students are like.
Recent meetings have included the creation of introductory slides, where students can share their backgrounds and interests. This activity not only helped members get to know each other better but also fostered a supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their work.
Those who choose to share their stories during meetings receive positive feedback and encouragement, enhancing their confidence and honing their skills. The blend of structured prompts and communal sharing makes the Creative Writing Club a comfortable environment.
An opportunity later in the year is entering personal writing pieces to the Fresno State Conference of Young Writers where students attend and have the opportunity to have their writing published in Fresno State’s literary journal.
Club meetings occur every Thursday during Pride Time and students can join in room 411.
