The cheerleading team hosted a “Yellow-Out” theme to their annual mini cheer clinic to support childhood cancer awareness at the Loftin Stadium on September 20.
The mini cheer clinic at Los Banos High school is an ongoing tradition that aims to show support towards childhood cancer awareness. To show their support, the mini cheerleaders wore yellow shirts and performed a mix of “Roar” by Katy Perry to represent fighting for cancer.
The Varsity and JV captains, Harlee McBride (12), Emilianna Sandoval (12), and Luna Martinez (10), came together to combine ideas to create a custom cheer for the minis along with their original cheers, “Pump It Up,” “Power,” and “Here We Go Tigers.” Regardless of having a long week ahead of them, the captains still took the time to come up with the moves, dance, music and performance.
To prepare the minis for the big performance, Varsity coach Ms. Gaby Andrada completed purchase orders, ordered items for the event, created flyers, and prepared the cheerleaders for the long days with another practice added to their schedule. The clinic was hosted for an hour and a half for three days for the minis to learn stunts, jumps, a dance routine, and sideline cheers for the third quarter.
This year in 2024, the cheerleading team has succeeded in getting 55-60 children registered in the cheer clinic. Although there were some challenges being dealt with such as difficulties with ordering the shirt sizes, and parents not being able to complete the registration form on time, the team managed to pull through to create a successful clinic for the children.
Despite all the challenges, Andrada enjoyed hosting the clinic, setting up games like duck-duck-goose, and playing songs for a free dance for the children. Andrada said, “The goal is to make sure all the little minis are having fun and they are excited to perform, their confidence in their performance that they’ve been taught and that my high school cheerleaders are also excited and eager to be an inspiration to the next generation.”
The clinic was a great experience for the children to be a Tiger cheerleader and getting to be on the field.
