Advancement via Individual Determination or better known as AVID is a program that can help students gain skills and more knowledge about a four-year college whether it’s a California state university or a university.
The school district is taking a closer look at AVID this year. The district AVID advisers want to focus students more on AVID because they want to encourage more students to go to four year college.
AVID also gives students support from the teacher and counselor, teaching the students A-G, majors by doing career assessments and field tips to explore college to see which locations are a better fit for them.
San Juana Gonzalez, one of the AVID counselors explained, “ .”
Students can get a lot out of an AVID class by learning how to be more time efficient, how to stay organized with a use of binders, as well as learning how to research their careers and interests.
Gonzalez said,“ They’re kind of more aware of their transcripts, so a lot of times students don’t know how to work their A-G courses and transcripts, although they can now they do, including getting more of a connection with the counselor as well.”
There are a total of two classes, Mrs. Veronica Seaborn teaches 11 and 12 graders. Ms. Mariana E Jimenez teaches ninth through tenth grade.
