AP Computer Science is now back as it has been gone for two years! The teacher for the class is Mr. Jackson Barcellos and he, alongside student Brooke Barton have nothing but good things to say about the class.
For some context, AP Computer Science is all about how computers work and in the class, they learn about the internet and also learn how to create their own applications and such. One fun project that students are expected to learn in the class is how to create their own phone app.
This is Barcellos’ first year teaching AP Computer Science, but when asked if the class being AP makes it more challenging, he said, “It’s going to be fast, but it isn’t too difficult…the pace that the class is going at is a good pace and no one has fallen behind.”
Barton finds Computer Science very interesting and likes how she gets an in-depth explanation about computers and how they work. Barton enjoys the class a lot as her teacher and classmates are great, so it makes her first experience in the class even better.
Even if some students are hesitant about joining the class, Barton suggests that they do because, “It’s super interesting and you’ll learn a lot. If you want to be in the Computer Science field, being in the class is the way to go. Mr. Barcellos will explain everything to you, and I wouldn’t worry about it being a challenge because the class is more fun than challenging.”
If anyone is interested in technology or even creating their own apps, then enrolling in AP Computer Science is the class for them. Students don’t need to know a lot of math as this class is more about being creative and letting your imagination run free.
AP Computer Science provides students a deep understanding of how computers function and explores the principals that exist beyond what is seen on the screens. This class plays a critical role in the development of scientific advancements and students will learn aspects such as software development, interface design, and mobile computing.
