The girls’ tennis team has had an impressive season with an 8-4 record, showcasing their skills and dedication on the court. Their hard work has paid off, earning them a solid 3rd place in the league, and securing them a spot in play-offs.
Mikayla Luna (10), a Varsity starter plays doubles for the Los Banos girls tennis team. Luna said “As a first year player I am physically preparing for play-offs by making sure I stay hydrated daily, and mentally I am making sure I stay positive no matter the circumstance.” With this only being Luna’s first year playing she has been improving greatly throughout the season.
Luna said that tennis has opened her eyes to new opportunities and friendships. She also said, “My favorite part of the current season is the bond that I have created with my doubles partner. During a tough match I know I can talk to my partner to help me stay positive and keep my energy flowing throughout our match.”
Gracie Orozco (10), also plays doubles for Los Banos. She said that how she prepares for matches mentally and physically is by, “staying focused at practice and giving it my best.”
Orozco’s first year, she said, “I would say my first year playing tennis has gone really well, especially with Ms. Barcelos as my coach and her seeing my potential as an athlete and wanting me to grow as a player has been really encouraging.”
Orozco’s goals for her first play-off game are, “As a team and individually I hope to go as far as I can. It’s my first year playing and I have come pretty far so I want to see how much farther I can go.
For the team, my goal is to see how far we could advance together and really see how our hard work pays off.” Orozco stays motivated during a tough match by “getting help from her doubles partner, Zoey Wooten (12), and just being able to be there for each other no matter what.”
The Lady Tigers aren’t done with league play yet. Their next match is against El Capitan on October 22. Wish them luck!
