Students have all different types of interests, and those interests reflect on the school clubs and sports they decide to part-take in. From Art Club to basketball, the variety of interests students have are all over the spectrum.
Delaney Valdes (11) said, “My favorite club Is AAPIA.” AAPIA is our Asian American & Pacific Islanders Association club on campus. This club is in support of those from Asian backgrounds and for those who are allies.
When asked why she enjoyed the club, Valdes responded, “I like the way it’s an active club that does activities within the school, and that I have friends in that club as well.”
Another interest Valdes has is soccer. “My favorite sport is soccer.” Soccer Is a competitive sport on campus. When asked why she enjoys soccer, Valdes responded, “I enjoy watching soccer on television, I don’t play soccer for the school.”
When asked what club or sport she would like to see brought to campus, Valdes responded, “I would like to see badminton as a sport if it isn’t already!”
Nathan Riofrio (11) said, “My favorite Club is the Interact Club.” Interact Club is our community service club on campus. Interact prides themselves on giving back to the community and completing community service acts such as painting the sidewalk, cleaning up local areas from graffiti, and starting events such as Socktober Drive, where students donate new socks for the homeless.
When asked why he enjoyed this club, Riofrio responded, “I enjoy the help we can bring to our community, being friendly to everyone, and interacting with new people.”
Another interest Riofrio has is soccer. “My favorite Sport is Soccer.” When asked why he enjoyed soccer, Riofrio responded, ”I enjoy soccer since it’s always been one of my favorite running sports, and I’ve always enjoyed running. I like the thrill it brings when you play it.”
When asked what club or sport he would like to see brought to campus, Riofrio responded, “A club that I would like to see take place is a club that has to do with traveling. This club can fundraise and support the community- earning field trips and possibly a big upcoming trip, and a sport I would like to see here on campus is badminton. A majority of the students here at LBHS enjoy badminton, and it is a very fun and competitive sport!”
Lupita Ruano (11) said, “My favorite club is the art club.” Art club is our creative club on campus. Art club sells hot chocolate on campus during cold weather seasons, hosts a pumpkin decorating competition, and does field trips. “It’s my favorite because I’m the president and I’m in charge.”
Another interest Ruano has is dance. When asked what her favorite sport was, Ruano responded, “My favorite sport is dance because I love watching dance moms.” Dance is a sport all about movement and rhythm.
When asked what club or sport she would like to see brought to campus, Ruano responded, “I would love to see a basic how-to class that shows people how to perform adult skills such as how to cook and how to see stuff like that.”
Overall, the opinions of every student varied based on their interests. From badminton to a basics club, each student has different things they want to see here at Los Banos High School. But what if a student wants to set up their own club? A student would have to find an adviser, propose their club to ASB with forms and information about their proposed club, and the club must have enough of a push in order for the club to become a reality.
