LBHS is taking part in a Battle of Books competition, a national organization on January 24, 2025 at Merced High School from 5-7 p.m.
There will be a total of 20 students and 14 teachers or staff members going to the event to compete.
The way the event works is there is a team of seven where each team is responsible for reading 20 books. The group of seven will divide the books and get to choose the books they would like to read. When the day comes for the competition, there will be questions based on the books and the person that read the book out of the seven students will answer the questions.
Amairany Gomez (12) and Evelyn Marisca (12) are both on the team and shared some of their strategies when it comes to the competition. Both said, “When we read a book, we take detailed notes for every chapter and share with our group about the notes from the book.”
Students are still welcome to join in on this event. Advisor Mrs. Teixeira said, “Yes, students are still able to participate. I’ve been trying to get people to come. We are meeting again soon.”
The event is for staff members and for students of the school. The schools taking part in this event are: Merced High School, Los Banos High School, Dos Palos, Livingston, and Atwater High School.
