Home EC had their second meeting on October 23 and the main activity of the afternoon was making cookies. The dough was handmade by volunteers and the cookies were decorated by club members and the results ranged from an American flag cookie, to a George Washington cookie. Some club members volunteered to help make cinnamon rolls that were provided to staff members later that week.
Every student had such unique ideas. Abigail Gastelum (11), who made the George Washington cookie said, “I started off just wanting to make a smiley face but it was too simple for me so I wanted to add hair and the marshmallows gave me the idea to make George Washington.”
Luna Mungia (11) who made the s’more cookie said, “I made a s’mores cookie and I made it because it seemed like the ingredients would match since the cookie base itself wasn’t very sweet.”
There were also plenty of volunteers making cinnamon rolls. Juniors Alana Arnold and Marlene Sotelo were two of the many volunteers who made cinnamon rolls. Arnold said, “So at the meeting they announced that if we wanted to stay and help out we could, and I decided to do so on the spot because it sounded fun and they smelled phenomenal.”
Sotelo said, “I decided to volunteer because I personally enjoy baking and being able to help fund my clubs, so to be able to do both is something I really enjoyed participating in.”
The members of Home EC are enjoying the club so far and are excited for what is to come. Sotelo said, ”It was really fun and work was distributed evenly, it was organized as well and everyone was super nice and helpful to each other.”
Mungia said, “I like the Home EC club so far, it’s really fun and a nice experience.”
Arnold said, “It was really fun. We mostly just cut and boxed the cinnamon rolls as they were too hot to put icing on.”
Gastelum said, “I’m really enjoying it so far and am excited to do more fun activities in the future.”
There were so many different cookies made from the members and there is so much to look forward to in the meetings to come in the Home EC club.
