Thanksgiving is a time where families come together to celebrate and bring out their traditions they have for the holiday that will create memorable memories with their relatives.
During the week of Thanksgiving there are a lot of different traditions happening. Some traditions families participate in doing are just cooking, staying home, and inviting family members. The simplest tradition can make the most memorable memories for family members to be passed on year after year.
Steve Vergara (12) has a family tradition of cooking and spending quality time with his family; he enjoys being able to cook with his family. Vergara said, “The best part of the holiday for me is cooking and spending time with my family.”
Most Thanksgiving traditions may include cooking and passing down recipes to one another. Yahaira Rodriguez (12) gathers together with her family members and they all bring food to cook in one house and wait till the food is ready for Thanksgiving. Her family then sets up the table and has her relative’s name tags placed on the table where they will be sitting and enjoy their meal together. Rodriguez’s family food dishes bring her family together.
Some Thanksgiving traditions involve partying with their relatives and just having a good time together. Traditions can lead to out of town trips where families get a chance to visit their far away relatives. Kayla Gonzalez (12) has a tradition of gathering together with her dad in Bakersfield where her aunts cook food and her family sings karaoke, giving out prizes for a karaoke contest all day and all night long. Gonzalez then wakes up early the next morning to go shopping for Black Friday. Gonzalez and her family parties sleepless nights but has a fun time with her dad and her relatives singing and having fun as well.
Lastly, a common tradition students like to have is a “Friendsgiving.” Students like to invite their friends over the week of thanksgiving to celebrate the holiday with them. It is a good time for friends and family to hang out together before leaving for their family trips during the thanksgiving break. Having a Friendsgiving gives one another great company during the holiday and gives friends great memories to make with each other.
