On November 13, the tarsity girls tennis team went up to Stockton to compete in the Section Finals against River Valley at the University of Pacific. They were the number five seed going up against the number three seed in the Division Four Section Finals.
The team fell short with an overall score of 2-7 with having their number six singles, Ava Felix and number one doubles, Zoey Wooten and Grace Orozco being the only ones that won. Though the score seems one sided, there were multiple close matches and either team could have taken home the title.
This was the second year in the row that the tennis team has made it to the division four finals. There were high hopes that this year the outcome would be different. The Lady Tigers had a good run leading up to the finals this year beating the number four seed, Oakdale, 5-4 and the number one seed, Manteca, 5-4. They finished league with an overall record of 10-5 and will have most of their players returning.
Number one Sophomore singles player Gabby Romo said, “I feel really confident about next year’s tennis team and I believe we will do very well. I am very excited to continue playing tennis next year and hopefully I can improve and my love for the sport will grow.”
There are five seniors who will not be returning next year, but with many young players, it seems that the team will still hold up strong. With having gone to the finals two years in a row, the team has great promise to make it again next year and will hopefully bring home the title of Division Four Section Champions.
