The varsity girls soccer team had their first scrimmage of the season against Pacheco High School and came out on top with a 2-1 victory.
Shayla Hernandez (12) and Kirstin Carrillo (11) scored the only two goals of the game. One goal being in the first and the second in the second half.
Hernandez is the captain of the team. She has played all four years of high school and has many personal goals for the upcoming season. She said, “My goals for the upcoming season is to set more personal goals as the season progresses and to improve my skills and overall better myself as a player.”
Hernandez said, “What I’m most excited about for my senior season is to make all new memories with my team.
Hernandez has played soccer for much longer than just high school and said, “Soccer has shaped me into the person I am today. It’s turned me into a disciplined and resilient person. The sport taught me teamwork, time management and the importance of setting and reaching goals.”
Irma Cortez (12) joined soccer her sophomore year and said her goals for the upcoming season is “to make a lot of memories with the girls and to win all of our games.”
Cortez has been playing soccer since she was 7 years old and said what she is looking forward to the most is the bus rides with the girls.
Cortez said, “Soccer has shaped me to be really active in a sport I love, and I’m really glad to have made some amazing friendships due to soccer.”
As the season progresses, we can expect to see a really great showing from our lady tigers. The next home game for soccer will be on Jan 8.
