The holidays are a time for students to enjoy taking the time to make and create homemade gifts for their friends and families, giving the ones they love meaningful gifts to keep.
Christmas is known to be a gift giving time of year for friends and family. A great way to spend Christmas with your family is by making creative gifts together with friends and family to give to your relatives that came from the heart. A lot of gifts can be made and given to such as gift baskets, homemade food or dessert, or something made from an origami. Homemade gifts allow you to have fun while making them, getting creative, and is less expensive than buying gifts from stores when you can make a gift out of materials you have from home into something unique.
Making homemade gifts allows you to customize the gift and go all out to express your creativity. You can turn a gift into the person’s interest or style such as adding their favorite color or a hobby they like. You can add or engrave the person’s name into the gift like a canvas or wood to make it more special. Customizing a photo frame or scrapbook is another great way to give a memorable gift to another. Making home decor is a cute simple gift to friends that have an interest in room decorations to their liking. Kayla Gonzalez (12) finds decorating gifts as a surprise more special. Gonzalez said, “I like to make the person’s gift the way that I like it because it makes me think that it would be more special. That it would honestly be more like a surprise for them since they don’t know the way that I will be decorating their gift.”
Homemade gifts are known to be more heartfelt because you can express your feelings through the gift and include a meaningful message through a Christmas card. Taking the time to make gifts for the people you care about makes it special, it shows that you put thought into the gift. Steve Vergara (12) loves to make gifts for his friends. He loves to bake his friends their favorite dessert or food and give it to them and takes the time to bake. Vergara said, “I’d rather make gifts because those come more from the heart than physical stuff.”
Making gifts can lead to traditions that can be passed down to their families and teach one another art skills and recipes, it can overall have a big impact on the ones you care about and keep traditions alive. Even though it takes some time and effort, it can create memories you’ll never forget.
