As the holiday season approaches everyone is starting to make their Christmas plans, each with their own traditions and celebrations.
Students were asked what their Christmas plans and traditions were, whether it was traveling to visit family, hosting a festive dinner, or simply enjoying their holiday at home.
In a recent interview with Valeria Sanchez (12) she was asked what her Christmas plans were and what traditions her family does. She stated, “For Christmas my family plans to go to Mass and then go to the Bay area to spend Christmas with the rest of my family and we always stay up until 12 a.m. and play games like white elephant, and we also open gifts and for Christmas. My family usually always make tamales, pozole, birria, etc., and the next day we stay in our pjs and eat leftovers.”
Victoria Iniguez (12) was also recently interviewed on what she and her family plan to do for Christmas and their traditions. She said, “For Christmas my family plans on hosting Christmas at our house this year so all my family is coming to spend the holiday together and for Christmas my family likes to play cards and watch movies. Usually we spend it in our pajamas, but this year, we are actually going to dress up nice and casual.”
Christmas is a lot of people’s favorite holiday because you get to spend time with your family and be able to bake goods, share meals, and create long lasting memories with family and friends. People also prefer Christmas because of the tradition of giving and receiving gifts which creates a sense of appreciation. Christmas also offers a break from usual routines and allows people to take a break from their usual routine.
Christmas day is also celebrated for the birth of Jesus Christ. This holiday may not be just a celebration of family traditions or the exchange of gifts but a time to reflect on God’s incredible gift to the world for some people. Christmas is a reminder of God’s promise of peace, joy, and salvation. It is a time where Christians worship and live out the teaching of Christ by spreading kindness and love to others.
