The Interact Club, with the PHS Interact Club helped with serving soup and cleaning up at the Rotary Club’s Empty Bowls event on December 5 at the Ted Falasco Art Center.
The patrons were able to pick a hand crafted ceramic bowl created by the art department from both high schools as a souvenir. Then they moved through the line and picked from a variety of soups from different places around town. Some of the soups were beef and barley soup from 6th Street Diner; Anderson’s Pea Soup; miso soup from Sugoi; and minestrone soup from M & M restaurant. The dinner included rolls and water as well.
Many club members came to help including some of our officers. The whole event itself went very smoothly and many people enjoyed the soups and the bowls. It was such a great way for the club to help the community and get more known.
One of the people in the club who helped serve soup all night was Hailey Tangco who’s been in LBHS Interact Club for four years and one year in middle school. Tangco stated, “My favorite part of the event was definitely seeing people in the community come together and just connecting with different people from the community and being surrounded by so many kind and friendly people”
The club’s President Krishnaa Vala was also at the event the whole night making sure everything went smoothly. Vala stated, “My favorite part was working with a team of amazing people to cater to our community.”
This whole event was a great experience for everyone involved and a way to bring the community together, there were so many familiar faces through the whole night and smiles on many faces. This was also a way to give exposure to all of the places who provided the delicious soup.
The LBHS Interact Club is a junior club to Rotary interact and the club strives to participate in community service projects throughout the year. Overall this event was so wonderful and many people came and participated and even the club members got to try the soup by the end of the night.
