Students place at Rotary Speech contest

February 4, 2025

The Rotary Speech contest was held on January 29 at Merced College.  FFA participants Zoey Wooten and Karley Rocha and Interact Club member, Isabella Guerra participated by giving a speech on “The Magic of Rotary.”

Out of eight contestants, Guerra placed second.  This was her first public speaking contest.  Wooten placed third.

The contest was sponsored by the Los Banos Rotary Club and judged by students enrolled in the Communications college class.

Winners of the speech contest included two Pacheco High FFA students and two Los Banos High students. (Mrs. McCullough)

I'm happy to be advising the Journalism class and helping produce our school newspaper.  I've always had a love for the newspaper industry which began with my own experience as editor of my high school newspaper to many jobs from writing for various papers to the prepress department at the Modesto Bee and the Fresno Bee newspapers. I hope journalism students develop a passion for the printed word and continue to read and support this industry.  Being engaged in our society and keeping up with world events is a crucial life skill for everyone.
