The regional competition for the Merced Academic Decathlon was held on February 1. After years without a team, Los Banos resumed the program which resulted in great results. Under the coaching of Mr. Felix Sanchez, the results are as follows:
Honors Team:
- Vivian Le (11)
- 1st Place Gold Medal in the Speech Category
- $250 Scholarship
- Fredy Artiga Hernandez (9)
- Highest scoring student on the team
- $500 Scholarship
- Claire Austin (10)
- Coaches’ Award
Varsity Team:
- Marcus Homer (12)
- 3rd Place Bronze Medal in Science
- 3rd Place Bronze Medal in Literature
- $250 Scholarship
Other participants on the team include Teresa Gonzalez Cuellar (10), Eisha Eve Balaba (9), and Miranda Navarrete Flores (9).
Coach Sanchez said, “It was very scary my first year being coach, and I feel I could have done a lot more to support our students. This year was a learning experience for both me and the team and I’m excited to improve along with them next year.”
