As winter sports approaches the end of its season, the Boys Varsity Baseball team has started their practices and has their preseason schedule set. They have their first scrimmage of the year on February 7, 2025, and it will tell the team a lot of what the season has to offer them.
Looking back at last year, the team finished first in league with an overall record of 16-7 and a league record of 12-2. This year, there are high expectations for them to perform at their best level especially with last year’s success.
There is one change about this year and that is the league. Going into the CCC, teams are a whole lot more competitive than in the WAC which will prove to be a challenge. Yet, with most of the team returning this year plus some of their junior varsity players coming up, it is said that the team is still very solid.
Junior outfielder Elijah Mejia said, “The team has been good for the past couple of years and I know that we’ll make playoffs and play well during the season. El Capitan will be our toughest competition because when we played them in fall ball they had really good hitting and pitching.”
With the addition of their new lights in the batting cages, their practices are able to extend longer in the day and which gives them more time to work on certain skills. Still, rest is needed and during league, the team will need it as they will be playing three games per week; play against each team three times. It’s quite the change from last year, but there is not doubt that the 2024-2025 Boys Varsity Baseball team will come out on top once again.
