In the small town of Los Banos there are many hidden talents among everyone. A neighbor can be a professional opera singer or a mailman can be extremely talented in theater but has anyone ever considered the talent among Los Banos High School’s students?
These four students, Marcos Carranza (11), Issac Aguilar (12), Jazmin Ortiz (12) and Joshua Rodriguez (12) have ignited their passion for music, forming their talents together to create music for their band, The Vat.
The band originates from Los Banos and has been under this name since June 2024. The Vat is a heavy alternative band that has grown a lot in popularity since their start up. The band has made their way across the valley to perform concerts, doing shows in Hollister and playing for the Dos Palos theatre and even hosting a show in Los Banos skatepark.
Each person plays an important role to the band, making their music complete with every instrument each member plays. On the drums Carranza plays, providing a strong melody and rhythm to their music. Aguilar, the lead solo guitarist shows his techniques and skills with his solos. Ortiz is the vocalist and bassist who brings harmony to their tunes and ties it all together. Rodriguez, lead rhythm guitarist and vocalist adds a foundational backbone. With all their talents together, they are able to create music that speaks to their community.
The Vat strives to connect people and provide a fun environment that gives Los Banos recognition. Rodriguez said, “The Vat is spreading a message of equality and unison to everyone.”
The band has an upcoming show where they will be showcasing a 30 minute set list with their own original songs at Joe Billiards on February 15, 2025. Some original songs that come from the band themselves are “Boy who cried wolf” and “Lucky.”
