Los Banos High School, Marley Zavala (12) is headed to the University of Oregon after graduation, earning her spot through a strong academic record that includes college classes.
This year, Zavala is taking two college classes: Government/Economics and Sociology/Psychology. She shared that throughout high school, she has been able to maintain a strong balance between her and her coursework, allowing her to do well in both her high school and college classes.
Zavala shared that her plans were to attend a 4 year university after high school, so when applications opened last November she applied to: UC Merced, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Pennsylvania State, University of Oregon, Oregon State, Cal Poly, and Monterey Bay State.
The ones that she got accepted to are Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal Poly Pomona, UC Merced, Pennsylvania State, and the University of Oregon.
Out of all the colleges Zavala got accepted to, she chose the University of Oregon. She decided to pick Oregon because she is majoring in Biology and they have great science classes. After she gets her bachelors in biology she plans on becoming an ultrasound technician.
She wants to become an ultrasound technician because she has always found interest in the medical field.
Zavala stated “Ultrasound technicians have always stood out to me because of the machines and seeing how those machines create internal images. It is also a really well paying job.”
As this year is coming to an end, Zavala is excited for her plans in the fall but in the meantime she is eager to take in all the small moments during her final months in high school.
