Beyond the textbooks and lesson plans, Miss Thacker dedicates herself to her students, nurturing their minds and hearts while leaving an indelible mark on the school community.
Thacker has been teaching for 29 years. She loves her job and helping kids learn new things everyday. Thacker loves to read as one of her hobbies.
Thacker said, “My favorite part of being a teacher is that it is never boring.”
Teaching high school students is not always the easiest, but it’s for sure a lot of work. “The job isn’t what I would call exciting; however, I never know what the day has in store for me.”
Teachers do so much for their students to make sure they get a good education. “I am always surprised by what my students do.”
Teachers get so many challenges every day. “I think the biggest challenge I face today is the effect social media has had on the attention span of my students. Social media is taking over our kids’ education. It is more and more difficult to keep my students engaged. Telling them to put down their phones is never easy and most of the time, they will not listen. I can’t compete with Tiktok.”
Being a teacher is not what everyone wants to do as their job. Thacker became a teacher because “I had many positive interactions with the educators in my life and I hoped I could do the same with my students. Learning new things and teaching my students is always such a good feeling.”
Thacker is not only a teacher, but she also runs a club for the school. She said, “It seemed like a great way to make a living while being useful to society.”
Thacker is a great English teacher and an amazing person too.
