The boys baseball season starts March 17 at home against Merced.
The Varsity baseball team has struggled with the start of their season. Jesse Vasquez (11) is a starter on the varsity baseball team. Making memories and having a good relationship with the team is really important. One thing Vasquez is more excited about this season. He said, “I’m most excited about traveling and spending time with my friends.”
It’s really hard to stay motivated when a player doesn’t make a play, or when he doesn’t catch the ball. Vasquez stays motivated “by focusing on the small things to regain momentum to continue moving forward.”
It’s really important to stay positive for your team during those hard times. One of Vasquez favorite parts about playing baseball is “connecting with my teammates and having fun playing the sport I grew up with.” His favorite position to play is catcher. He likes playing catcher because “I’ve been playing catcher all my life and I’m the most comfortable there.”
Johnny Escobar (11) has been playing baseball for 12 years. One of Escobar’s favorite parts about playing baseball is “the friendships that are built because of the sport.”
This is Escobar’s first year on varsity. He is most excited about “I’m most excited for the bus rides after the game.” Escobar can play everywhere on the field. He said, “My favorite position to play is third base because it usually gets a lot of action.” Escobar stays motivated by “keeping my energy up and letting go of my mistakes.”
Zarryk Affonso Stiers ss a starter on the varsity baseball team. His favorite part about playing baseball is “being able to play the sport I enjoy and be out there with my friends.” Affonso Stiers is most excited about for the team to have a playoff push and a deep run in playoffs. His favorite position to play is catcher because “You command a lot of the game, always working and it’s fun to play.”
The boys varsity team has a game on March 15 at 12 against Livingston.
