The Agricultural Food Science program and Mac’s Meat Market is hosting their first ever sausage tasting on March 20 during Pride Time and lunch.
There will be 11 different sausages: Linguica, Italian Red Ropes, Italian Red Fine Grind, Breakfast, Cajun, Andouille, Jalapeno Cheesywurst, Polish, Chicken Parmesan, Mexican Chorizo, Snack Sticks. All of these samples will be paired with something that’s related to how it could be served.
Ag Foods instructor, Mr. Stuart McCullough stated, “I want the taste testing to go well. I want people to see the things that we do in the classroom that don’t happen in other places and I want to showcase what we do in the classroom.”
The students in class do many different things such as drying peppers, cutting up meat, grinding meat and making sausages. They also help prepare meals from time to time for different events.
The sausages that people will be eating are made in class by the students. What these students learn to do in the class is so special and the opportunity to learn these things is great. This class is one of the only classes that get to do these type of things across the U.S.
McCullough stated, “Students are getting to do things that no one else does and it’s also a realization that it’s not hard to do these things.” He feels that as long as students can take something from what they have learned to do in this class is a win in his book.
Mac’s Meat Market, the Ag Foods store is open to the public to purchase and sausage prices range from six to 10 dollars. Other items he sells as well is seasoning: Italian sweet and Italian hot pepper seasonings.
