Did you ever wonder what teachers do outside of class or what their days are like as teachers? Math teacher, Mrs. Veronica Seaborn provides a glimpse into her life and shares what a typical day looks like in her world.
Her daily morning routine, before heading to school begins at 5:45 a.m. when she wakes up. She takes her vitamins along with a yogurt protein drink. After that, she brushes her teeth and takes a morning shower.
After her shower she explained her skin care routine. “Every morning I put on toner, charcoal black seed oil, sunscreen, and eye cream. All my products are organic.”
Following her skin care routine, she then starts packing lunches for herself and her seven year old son. She said, “By the time I start on our lunches, my son wakes up so I make him breakfast, and while he eats, I go do my bed and get dressed for the day. I start getting my son ready. After he is all finished with his breakfast, I head off to drop him off at school.”
During the interview Seaborn was asked if she usually gets coffee before heading to school and she mentioned that she and her teacher friends have a coffee routine. Everyone has a different day for when they have to bring coffee for everyone in the group. On Mondays, it’s Ms. Guttierez, Tuesdays, it’s Mr. Sanchez, Wednesdays, it’s Mrs. Mankin, and on Fridays, Seaborn brings coffee.
Seaborn begins her school day teaching Avid, period 1 and Math Reasoning, period 2.
She stated, “During break, my teacher friends come in my classroom and we normally chit chat and then 3rd period, I have prep which is when I should be getting work done or going for a walk, but instead I stay and chit chat with Mr. Halpin and Mr. Stepro.”
After her prep period 3, she has Math Reasoning period 4, the next period is Pride Time and she goes on her phone or talks to her students.
Lunch is the next scheduled time. “During lunch I have my teacher crew come into my classroom and we usually have teacher meetings.”
Her last two classes of the day are Math Reasoning.
Seaborn has her teacher assistants help grade paper assignments during the periods she has them. A lot of the other assignments are online and the computer usually grades them for her.
Seaborn mentions that after school she heads home right away and the first thing she does is check the mail for packages. She normally cleans the house like washing dishes and doing laundry. Then she preps for dinner and goes to pick up her son from an after school daycare then heads back home to make dinner. She, her husband, and son all eat at the table as a family, then after they’re done eating, her son clears the table for them.
Around 7 p.m. they all watch television for about an hour until her husband gets tired and heads to bed. Seaborn stays up watching a Lego YouTube video with her son. After that she reads him a bedtime story. She usually tries to stay up to have some alone time watching TV but most of the time, she falls asleep.
