On May 23, 2025 from 8 a.m to 12 p.m., MedLife Club will be hosting a Blood Drive in the MPB room. It is still being determined if it will be open to the public or not, but at the moment, it will be open for all staff and students.
The requirements in order to volunteer to give blood is being at least 16 years or older with a parent consent form filled out. Even if 18, it is still required to have a parent consent form due to the event taking place on a school campus. It is also necessary to have good health and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and have not donated blood in the last eight weeks.
Some things to expect during the donation process is that mini physicals will be performed. The people drawing blood will be checking the volunteers’ pulse, blood pressure, temperature and checking iron levels with a small finger prick. The donation will be one pint which takes around 15 minutes to do. Afterwards, students and staff can relax with some food and fluids to replenish. When the students are feeling well enough, they are free to go back to class.
There are a few ways to be prepared before donating blood. It is a good idea to eat a healthy meal preferably with iron rich foods, drink lots of water, get rest, and avoid caffeine. It is also necessary to bring a physical ID or student ID and the form filled out with a pen.
ROP teacher, Ms. Kayla Jimenez stated, “It is important to donate blood because Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood…One single donation can save up to three lives.”
Donations are always appreciated as the blood that is collected gets used for auto accidents, heart related surgeries, transplants, bleeding ulcers, fractured hip and joint replacements. and brain surgeries for 20 hospitals in the Central Valley.
If interested, students can schedule by scanning the QR code in the image. After scanning the QR code, stop by room 16 to pick up the new donor packet and consent forms to bring the day of the appointment.
