With graduation coming up on June 6, our seniors are on the brink of adulthood. But what futures are they looking to pursue?
A few seniors were asked to share what they are searching for on their pathway through life, why, and how they planned on achieving their goals.
“I want to be a marketer because it’s a career that lets me be creative and strategic while also giving a long range of opportunities… and also to get that bag,” Maribel Cortez Hernandez stated.
She plans to go to San Jose State University and earn her bachelor’s degree in marketing. While there, she plans on volunteering her time to small local businesses to help build her portfolio and gain experience. After graduation, or earlier if possible, Cortez intends to apply for an internship in marketing and work her way up from there. She added that she is excited to start her journey and is looking forward to this career.
Many students seek the education field or working with children in some capacity. “A Child Life Specialist! I love helping others, and younger children in scary environments,” Orianna Ramos said.
Ramos plans on attending Sacramento State University to get her bachelor’s degree in psychology. Then, she will take 10 preparation classes with 600 hours working from an internship before taking an exam to become a certified child life specialist.
Amairany Gomez commented, “I want to be an elementary school teacher because kids these days need some education and no more brain rot.”
Gomez plans on going to college for child development to get to understand the mind of children. She also plans on becoming a psychology major to get more familiar with knowing people in general so it will be easier for her to have a deeper understanding with the kids so that they have someone to talk to and have a fun and comfortable environment to grow in.
Some graduates will filter into the business world. Nancy Miron Ruiz claimed, “My future career goal is to become a business analyst because the job is high in pay.”
She plans on achieving her goal of becoming a business analyst by dedicating herself to her studies at San Jose State University, and says that she is eager and looking forward to her journey as a first generation college student in her family.
Our seniors are looking forward to their futures. Whether their plans are to expand their education or immediately start working, they are all ready for the next chapter in their lives, and are all striving to be successful in our society.
