The Los Banos Junior Varsity team has some amazing athletes, including the incredible journey of Ben Lugo and his impact on the game.
Ben Lugo (10) has always had a passion for baseball since he was a kid, starting his journey at a young age and playing for a total of 13 years. Over the years he has fine tuned his skills and learned lots of useful techniques.
His dedication and perseverance have made him a skilled player, and he continues to improve his game. Lugo plays third base, shortstop, and left field. His versatility on the field allows him to adapt to different game situations, making him a valuable player for his team.
Lugo bats cleanup (fourth) for the Los Banos Tigers, boasting an impressive batting average of .333 so far this season. His position in the lineup reflects the team’s trust in his ability to drive in runs and deliver in crucial moments.
Lugo’s greatest inspiration for his love of the game he said, “My biggest influence was my great grandfather. He was one of my first ever coaches, and coached me for five years. He taught me almost everything I know and showed me how to be the player I am.” Lugo also mentioned that his goal is to play in college baseball at the next level.
Lugo believes that maintaining a positive mindset is crucial for success. He said, “I stay motivated by putting mistakes behind me and focusing on the next play, in order to do better.”
A big part of playing a sport is that you have to enjoy it, in order to want to improve, Lugo said, “My favorite part about playing baseball is the people that I play with.”
Lugo has his own distinct approach to getting fired up for a game. He said, “My pregame routine is slamming an energy drink before taking the field.”
The passion and dedication that players bring to the game of baseball not only elevate their performance but also inspire those around them. As they step onto the field, it’s clear that their love for the game drives them to push their limits and strive for greatness.
Go show your support to Mr. Lugo and the rest of the JV baseball team May 22 as they take on Oakdale.
