It’s hard to even think about next school year when we still have a few more weeks left, but planning needs to begin. Incoming freshman will have the perfect chance to explore their interests and get involved on campus early at this year’s Club Rush on May 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
It is the first year Mr. Frank Leonard, ASB advisor and Ms. Mejia, counselor will be doing this Club Rush for the incoming freshman. They will be alternating two groups. Freshmen will have a mini tour of the school while they are here just so they won’t be as lost when they come into high school. The first group will be in the MPB with Mejia while Leonard will take them around the main office, the attendance office, and around the library and then take them back to the Tiger Gym and then the second group will also get that same tour.
Mejia shared her goals for this year’s club rush and she said, “My goal for this club rush is to bring freshmen in and give them a welcome and make them feel comfortable especially for the ones that are super nervous about high school and don’t know what high school is about. I think the club rush will help them see extracurricular activities that they can be involved in, it is mostly to introduce them to what they should look forward to in high school.”
Clubs will have booths set up to advertise their clubs. Each booth will be decorated with posters to attract attention from the freshmen who will be exploring campus life for the first time. To make the booths even more appealing, many clubs will be handing out candy and small prizes creating a fun and welcoming setting. Even if students initially stop by just for free treats, the goal is to spark their interest and give them a chance to learn more about what each club has to offer. It’s a creative way to draw people in and encourage them to engage with different clubs around campus.
As a counselor Mejia is familiar with the feelings of anxiousness and uncertainty incoming freshmen may have, so her main goal after this club rush is to make them feel welcomed so they can be less nervous to enter high school.
