Gannon Lemos (12), the man, the myth, the legend, the goat, the Lebron James of golfing, by winning the title of MVP of CCC sectionals and qualifying him to the Masters level, where he did not advance.
Lemos has worked hard to achieve masters considering last year he missed the cut by one shot, scoring a 82 his junior year, and the year’s prior to that as well in a loss. Ever since that fateful day, Lemos kept training like no other and didn’t give up, constantly remembering the time he almost won, this drove him to improve greatly.
“He puts in a lot of work off season, on season, weekends, on his own time… he’s always training,” Christensen stated.
This year Lemos tied for first place out of the whole section scoring a 75 amongst two other players like a stud. Lemos was the only player left representing Los Banos. Surprisingly one of the opposing players that made it to first place as well was one of Lemos’ good friends, Lemos was just happy they both did great that day. This win meant everything to Lemos.
“It felt great when I came in and saw I was tied for the top score, it was a big relief off my shoulders, cause there’s been a good amount of pressure on myself personally to get this done, and hopefully make it to state, that’s the plan,” Lemos stated proudly.
Keep in mind, these CCC tournaments have 12 teams of 6 participating players meaning over 30 individual players are playing to make it to the top, no matter the cost. Even with all the pressure Lemos never stopped and kept going no matter what.
“No matter what, Gannon doesn’t look back, he looks at the shot, and next hole,” Christensen stated.
Lemos started playing golf freshman year for fun due to a knee injury from basketball but began to really take it seriously during his sophomore year making it to sectionals as a result. Ever since then Lemos just fell in love with golf and put away his other passions, and never looked back.
Lemos shared that his favorite club to use is a TaylorMade Qi10 driver. This is the same club he used to win sectionals and make history. His reasoning for liking this club is because it looks and sounds cool, but most of all performs great.
Lemos stated, “It’s one of the best drivers I ever used in my life.”
He has taken this club to heart by pushing himself to be the best golfer. He achieved personal goals and left a legacy behind for future team members. Golf will remain a sport he loves.
After graduation Lemos plans to travel to Scotland with his family and play golf on the motherlands. He is grateful for golf for keeping him strong mentally and for his mother for always being there for him. He is also grateful for his coach, Mr. Christensen and his best friend, Jared van Loben Sels for always pushing him.
