Jennifer Leyva has made her decision to move to Lorena Falasco Elementary after working at Los Banos High School for four years. While the transition is bittersweet, it marks a full-circle moment in her educational journey.
Leyva, an alumni of LBHS, originally began her career with a passion for elementary education. She came to the high school level four years ago with the goal of learning and growing as much as possible, so that she could one day return to where her heart has always been-elementary education. Now, she is excited and grateful to bring everything she’s learned back to the elementary level, where she feels she can make the most meaningful impact.
Her time at LBHS was filled with meaningful experiences and personal growth. One of the most rewarding aspects of her role was working with English learners, helping them build confidence, pride in their cultural identity, and achieve milestones such as the Seal of Biliteracy.
“Watching our Seal of Biliteracy numbers grow has also been a true highlight,” said Leyva.
She cherished the simple moments: telling a student she’s proud of them, celebrating when they got their driver’s license, seeing students walk across the stage at graduation. “These experiences are what I’ll hold closest to my heart.”
Beyond academics, Leyva values the relationships she built with students and staff. Being back on her former high school campus brought waves of nostalgia, reminding her daily of the experiences that shaped her as both a student and an educator.
Leyva’s experience at Los Banos High school has profoundly shaped her as an educator and will significantly influence her teaching at Lorena Falasco Elementary. These lessons have given her a well rounded perspective on the entire K-12 journey, which she plans to bring to the elementary level. With this insight, she is excited to help lay a strong educational foundation for her young students, fully aware of how critical and impactful those early years are in shaping their success.
Leyva also leaves words of encouragement for the person stepping into her role. “Be ready to give this place your all because LBHS truly deserves it. It’s a special school where Tiger Pride runs deep, especially if, like me, you were born and raised here. Embrace the culture, the traditions, and most importantly, the students. They’ll make you laugh with the things they say or do, surprise you with their strength, and fill you with an overwhelming sense of pride as you watch them grow. Soak in every moment—it’s a role that will leave a lasting impact on your heart.”
Los Banos High School will miss her dedication, heart, and Tiger Pride, but the students at LFE are gaining an educator who is ready to make a lasting impact from day one.
