For Nancy Miron (12), committing to San Jose State University wasn’t just about academics; it was about returning to her roots and fulfilling a childhood dream.
When college applications initially opened in October, Miron didn’t hesitate. She knew exactly where she wanted to begin the next chapter of her life. San Jose State University was her immediate first choice, not just because of its programs, but because of her personal history it represented.
“I used to live in San Jose my whole life, and going to SJSU has always been part of my plan,” she said. “It was the first college I ever went to when I was in sixth grade, and I’ve always wanted to go there since then.”
Along with her ambition to return home to the city she once called home, the opportunities and programs San Jose State University offered also contributed to her decision to choose San Jose.
“Their business program was a huge part,” she explained. “And knowing that SJSU is in the heart of Silicon Valley and offers the opportunity to connect directly with some of the world’s leading companies made me more interested.”
Her recent return to campus, five years after that first visit, was a full-circle moment that reaffirmed everything, “When I went for the first time after five years to SJSU as a field trip from AVID last semester, I was so excited to be back in San Jose and the seeing the campus for the first time in so long I knew in that moment that choosing this school was the right choice for me.”
However, her journey wasn’t just about looking back. Her time at LBHS shaped her into the student and person she is today. “It was definitely a new change in scenery for me,” she said. “During my time here, I would describe LBHS as lively, transformative, and eye-opening.”
Miron credits the experiences and people she met at LBHS for helping her grow, both academically and socially. Looking back on senior year, it’s the community moments, the ones that brought the class of 2025 together, that she’ll carry with her.
“Experiencing prom, senior sunrise, and homecoming were some of the most memorable experiences I’ve had,” she said, reflecting on a year filled with joy, reflection, and anticipation for the future.
Although that first visit to San Jose State was years ago, it left a lasting impression. As Miron prepares to close this chapter of high school, she is returning to the campus where her college dreams first took shape.
