Renovations around school have started this summer from redoing the floors, bleachers, and locker rooms in the Tiger Gym to soon redoing entire classrooms to remove windows, carpet, and create a new window area. Construction will upgrade and modernize the 61 year old school in many ways.
The school received a grant from the state of $16 to $18 million dollars for the project. It’s proposed that construction will be completed in two years time.
As remodeling continues throughout the school year, students see the pros and cons of ongoing work. Some believe that it’s worth moving around campus into portables, noise, and complications, while others see it as annoying and irritating.
Obstacles like having to walk further away to get to classes from the parking lot or across campus may not bother many, but it can be a struggle without an available direct path to class.
Jesse Vasquez (12) said, “It bothers me because the parking spots are so far from the entrance and all the students without assigned parking spots have the privilege to park closer.”
On the other hand, some students aren’t affected by the construction. Seniors are more likely to be irritated with the work being done compared to underclassmen.
“I’m not as affected by the construction because it’s my first year and I’m already used to it. I also don’t get irritated by the parking situation since my sister drops me off every morning anyway,” said Kacey Silveira (9).
Renovations affect some students more than others, reflecting how daily life is different for everyone. Students are ready to embrace upcoming changes in their classroom scenery as they will be moving to portables soon.
How do students feel about the construction around school?
