Mr. Carson Souza, new assistant principal, has joined our high school this school year. Coming from Visalia Unified District, Souza was also an assistant principal at La Joya Middle School after being their athletic director, and P.E. teacher before.
He is originally from Tulare, California, which he describes is very similar to Los Banos because of its strong agricultural community. He said, “There are more cows than people in my town.”
Souza said he decided to go into administration because one of his mentor principals encouraged him to take the next step. When he was transitioning into becoming an assistant principal he said, “I had a really good mentor principal that I was close with who really encouraged me to take that next step.”
His mentor’s advice and guidance helped him and gave him a push to leave the classroom and athletics behind and take on new challenges and choices in administration as assistant principal.
As he begins his first year at the high school, Souza is determined to build strong connections with both students and staff. He explained that he wants to be visible on campus, listen to the needs of the school, and find ways to provide support and guidance whenever and wherever it is needed.
Souza said, ” My main goal is to create a welcoming environment, where students can academically and personally thrive.”
Outside of school, Souza has a pretty busy lifestyle. He has a passion for sports such as basketball, football, and pickleball, and he enjoys traveling and going on fun adventures with his wife. At home he and his wife have two labradors, one chocolate, and one yellow. Though they do not have children yet, Souza considers his dogs as a part of their family.
With his experience, energy, and enthusiasm, Souza is excited to begin this new chapter and contribute to the school.
