Back to School night was celebrated on September 10 with an estimated 100 parents in attendance.
Back to School night is one of the most important nights throughout the school year. This night is supposed to allow teachers to tell parents about their expectations from their students. This also allows the parents/guardians of the students to ask any questions or let out their concerns about the class or school year.
“By coming and meeting them and introducing themselves, a lot of times teachers will give them the best way to contact them. This helps to bridge that gap between school and home,” said Mrs. Megan Punt, vice principal. The school is giving many opportunities for the families to connect and to build a community as one.
This event is often seen as a not-so-important night. Although a good handful of people may see it that way, it’s not true. Back to school night is a big opportunity for seniors and freshmen to explore their options, learn about important dates within the year, and ask any important questions since these two years in high school are so important.
“At events like Back to School, my role is pretty simple. I am expected to greet parents and students and give a brief explanation of how my class works and what I am teaching and then answer any other questions parents may have,” said Mr. Stephen Kline, history teacher.
Both Punt and Kline stated that back to school night is an enjoyable night. As with most teachers and administration, they wish most parents would come to the event, especially to learn what kind of classes their children are in and what topics they are required to learn throughout the year.
