Girls golf season is beginning and the girls are excited and preparing for the courses they will be travelling to. A member and returner of the team have spoken on thoughts about the upcoming season.
Junior Brooke Barton, returning golfer, stated, “I’m most excited to compete, and get to bond with my teammates.”
Bonding and having chemistry with teammates is key to being able to stay positive and supportive. Keeping a positive mindset will help the team win against their opponents.
Barton also said, “I physically prepare for the season by indulging myself in sugary snacks. The sugar helps with the mental aspect too.”
Sports are both physical and mental, so with Barton finding things to advance herself on her own time is one of the many ways she contributes to the team as a returner.
New members are learning the sport as they show up to practices.
Siena Halloran (9) said, “For preparation I go to practice every week and practice at home sometimes.”
Halloran is learning the sport of golf as this is her first year playing. Wanting to get better, she goes home and finds time at home to get the hang of the right techniques.
As Halloran said, “One of the more challenging obstacles as a beginner is learning how to hit the ball in a comfortable and efficient way especially because it’s slightly different for everyone.”
Barton on the other hand has three years of experience. Even with years of experience she still has things she would like to perfect.
As Barton stated, “I would want my putting to be perfect. I tend to two-three putt everything so if I could just one putt everything, my score would go down.”
As a new learner, technique is important because the wrong technique can lead to injuries and or discomfort.
Halloran said, “For right now all I want to perfect is my basic swing.”
This season the girls golf team has a very dedicated team which should lead them to go very far this year.
