On Oct. 17, the football team will be playing against Buhach Colony 7 p.m. at the Loftin Stadium. During the halftime show, Homecoming Court will be part of halftime where the winners of the Homecoming king and queen are crowned.
For the players, this game means more than just a win. The team has been working hard by preparing for the game. They have been practicing hard and going to weight room in the mornings before school to make sure they are ready to take on Buchach Colony.
“What winning the Homecoming game means to us players is just proving our hard work and dedication to the team and school,” said Donovan Verducci-Greer (12), a varsity football player. He added, “We are preparing for the game by working hard, practicing hard, and making sure we win.”
The crowd’s energy plays a huge role, too. When students participate in dress up week, it boosts the players motivation on the field.
“The Homecoming game brings the community together beyond just football because families and friends come together to cheer the players on, while reuniting with each other,” said Sidney Silveria (12).
The halftime show adds even more excitement. Seeing the Homecoming Court on floats and dressed up is always a highlight, but everyone waits to see who will be crowned King and Queen.
The theme for the Homecoming game and the dance is “Real In Rio.” It is based off the Brazil carnival due to their colorful costumes and attire.
Some students shared their thoughts on this year’s theme. “I think the Hoco theme is decent because the colors are lively,” said Kimberly Rodriguez-Martinez (12).
Still, there is hope in the air. “I think the Tigers will win,” said Alexa Lomeli-Perez (12). “With a lot of practice and ambition, they’ve got this.”
ASB students will be working hard behind the scenes, setting up posters and decorations to bring the Homecoming spirit to life. Though there will be no floats due to the turf. There will be decorated golf carts by the people running for King and Queen.
