Drama Club is working on a production titled “Reality Stars: Greek Gods,” which will be performed Nov. 20, 22, and 23 in the MPB. Members of the club were interviewed about their preparation process.
The play will revolve around a cast of Greek Gods starring in a reality TV competition. It is an original concept by Jonathan Yukich.
Actor Taetum Cardenas (12) will be playing Apollo in the production. This is her third year as a part of the Drama Club, meaning she has plenty of experience being on stage!
“My favorite part of being in this production is the people because we all have the same goal and it’s fun to work on a project like this,” Cardenas said.
With only a few weeks to perfect the production, the Drama Club has practice every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to ensure that they are adequately prepared to impress their audience.
“Our practice has consisted of running through lines and practicing our staging for the scene,” said Cardenas.
Jayda Cardenas (12) is also an actor in the play, and has been a member of the Drama Club for three years. She will be playing the role of Aphrodite.
Even with this being her third year as a Drama Club member, Cardenas still struggles with stage fright. She said, ¨To overcome stage fright, I just keep telling myself that I´ve done this so many times before in rehearsals, and it helps that I´m on stage with my friends so I know they have my back.”
“Fill in if any actors are missing and provide feedback to the actors on what they did well and what they need to improve on,” said Bradley English (12), stage manager, when asked about his responsibilities. “I have to, in the absence of the director, run rehearsals as well.”
In his second year being part of the Drama Club, English’s duties are to be a shadow of the director, and follow through with any tasks that the director doesn’t complete.
In regards to the preparation schedule, English said, “Practices have been going well, we are going through scenes and blocking.”
The production is coming along, according to both actors and stage manager. Only time can tell how the final production will come out.
