S Club is a club trying to make a difference in the community. This club isn’t just about entertainment, they’re deeply committed to giving back and supporting those in need.
From organizing dinners to initiating fundraiser events, Mr. Miguel Herrera, the advisor for S Club, decided to become the advisor because he was told it was an interesting club. He said “It was a really interesting club that Mrs. Todd had told me about. I wanted to make sure that it was going to be an active club on campus.”
He emphasizes the importance of communication when things go wrong and encourages clear communication with everyone. He suggests just speaking with students when issues are brought. He said, “Usually the kids are professionals, I think if you can speak to them you can see where they’re coming from.”
Airam Rodriguez (12), vice president of S Club, wanted to be a part of S Club because of her friend Aubree De La Cerda (12). Rodriguez decided to be an officer to help people more and be a part of something. She said, “Helping people brings me joy and makes me happy.”
Both Mr. Herrera and Rodriguez said that they’re favorite part about S Club are the how dinners. The proceeds go to a good cause, bringing them joy. Their upcoming events are fundraisers and blanket drives during the holidays coming up.
The club volunteers at Helping One Woman (H.O.W.) dinners once a month, where the club is in a partnership with this local organization. Mr. Herrera said, “Every third Wednesday of the month except December, we host a dinner at M&M’s.” The purpose of the dinner is to raise money for a woman that’s going through a hard time in her life. At the dinner all the recipient’s friends and family get together not just for monetary support but to show their love and support towards her to show her that she’s not alone.
They recently did their positive notes all around campus for Suicide Prevention Month and it was a success. All club members went out and filled the campus up with positive and nice reminders on the floors of our school in chalk.
Mr. Herrera welcomes anyone and everyone. He encourages students to bring a friend to meetings in room number 38.
