Math teacher Mr. Allen Lee Spivey, formerly known as the Data Science teacher, helps students to learn and understand how to code.
Unfortunately, due to not having enough students, the Data Science class was not offered this year. However, coding will be a demonstration of what Data Science has to offer. Coding can be used in careers like analysts, data scientists, software engineers and anything that has to do with building a company or working for the government.
Spivey claimed, “Coding can be used anytime you’re trying to analyze things, it could be the corporate world, or in the government world. That’s where coding would be supportive for sure.”
Coding can be referred to as instructions made for a computer system to perform a task. Spivey uses a specific assignment called ‘Choose your own adventure’ where it gives students the ability to set blocks and create an instruction for each block to help perform a certain task. “The Data Science class isn’t intentionally developing a lot of heavy coding, but an introductory level and basic understanding of coding,” stated Spivey.
According to Spivey, the most common mistakes made by students learning how to code are ‘the little things’. Spivey explained, “Forgetting the little things. Little tiny pieces, you know, having the right idea of things in place, but having little tiny errors.”
Spivey hopes that this class will make it back to campus for students to join and learn more about Data Science.
