Inflation has been an ongoing situation for years, leaving many people left with no home, or no food to eat. Inflation was supposed to help people control their spending on materialistic items, but instead, it’s leading to people losing their day-to-day items.
Inflation is the rate at which prices for materials and services increase over time in the economy, which can mean that as time goes on, the prices go up which can make living situations for lower classed people much harder. Gas prices, food, clothing, housing, all of the basic living necessities are starting to become harder for people to afford.
With inflation as a hot topic in politics, Mr. Bowman Halpin, history, is able to give an insight on inflation. He stated, “In 2000 a loaf of bread cost a dollar and in 2025, the same loaf of bread cost two dollars.” Within the twenty five years that went by, the pricing for the bread went up by a whole number. To some this may not seem like a huge deal, but for those who have low paying income jobs and are not able to make ends meet, this is a big amount that’s being added.
Inflation is mostly controlled by the government. The government’s intention with raising the prices was for several reasons, one of them being so they could make more money to import the goods from where they originally came from. This was also to get more people to purchase goods because with certain items, the more expensive the item the higher the quality.
This has had a huge impact on everyone. Due to everything going up especially in housing, many families and individuals have had to evacuate either being left on the streets, or leaving everything behind just to afford housing. This has especially fallen on me and my family, especially Rocsana Reyes, known as my Mom. She stated, “ It went as far as us moving to a completely different town, to balance out rent, food and other everyday life spending.”
Inflation is going up each year, which can make the cost of living much harder for lower income people. Especially those who work double jobs just to get food on the table. Although the daily needed necessities should be affordable for everyone, unfortunately they are not. And as their prices are being raised, the quantity lowers as well which makes the buyers more bound to buying more and more items.
