Entering the third month of the school year, there are many deadlines coming up for seniors. It is a busy time for both students and counselors.
Ms. Alma Mejia Medina, 12 grade counselor, has her hands full this year. From helping seniors complete college applications to attending Grad Nite with them, she has her own thoughts and feelings towards her first class completing their high school career.
“So bittersweet… I’m definitely feeling a little old, but I do feel really happy and blessed that I´ve been with you guys for four years,” Mejia said.
Along with the fun of choosing quotes and baby photos, both due Nov. 7, there is a looming responsibility for all seniors. While the hardest part is up for interpretation, Mejia believes it has something to do with simply following along.
“It’s really hard to keep up with dates and deadlines, so I think the communication piece is really hard, and obviously the second semester ‘senioritis’. Also seniors trying to make decisions on where to go to college, what to do with their life after high school.”
Of course, there are fun aspects of the year. Senior quotes is a long-running tradition that Mejia offers her advice on.
“Something that you stand by, something that you’re proud of, and if you have a goofy personality, then I feel like something goofy would be really nice.”
Senior Micah Madera already has her quote picked out. “My senior quote is ‘Do what makes you happy because in the end who’s there? You.’ From Tyler the Creator,” she said.
With deadlines approaching, it is time to finalize decisions and get them turned in! For seniors that are still unsure what they should quote, Madera offers some advice.
“I think a good senior quote is something that actually reflects who you are, your mindset, or what you want to leave behind. It should be meaningful, but also something you’ll still stand by years from now.”
Cap and gown orders are underway, and they are due by October 17. To order on Josten’s website, students must provide their height and weight, including any lifted shoe they plan to wear at graduation.
Also on Josten’s is the 2025-2026 yearbook, available for purchase now! They are $90 until Oct. 17, and once they are sold out they will not be restocked, so now is the time to buy. If parents are interested in a senior recognition page for their child, those are also available until after winter break at Jostens.com.
