After not being able to play five games due to the CIF rule because he transferred from South Carolina, Joenamous Gago (12) made a strong return to the football field on Friday October 3 against El Capitan. He immediately changed the energy of the team.
Gago was very devastated because he couldn’t play for a total of five games due to him transferring to a new school, but he is now proud and excited in his performance on and off the field. “I got to put in the hard work all that time I didn’t play, and now I’m a major part of the team,” Gago said.
Coach Carlos Rodriguez said he was excited to have Gago back, knowing the difference he brings on both sides of the ball. “The first game back, he made a big impact and held the line very strong.” His defensive power and leadership helped boost the team’s confidence and performance.
Gago played a major role in the team’s defense. “If he got hurt, it would impact our whole defense and put more pressure on the line backers,” Coach Rodriguez added. Other teams even double-team him, proving how much of a threat he is on the field.
But it’s not just his athletic skills that stands out. Off the field Gago is known for his kindness and leadership. “He is a giant with a good heart who always wants to help others,” said Rodriguez.
Counselor Miss Alma Mejia also spoke highly of him as a student. “I’m happy to have a good new student who’s part of the football team,” Mejia said.
As Gago does well on the football field, he also puts in time to do his homework and has very good grades. “Joenamous is very responsible with his grades and assignments and is a teammate on a team which is very rare to see,” Mejia said.
With Gago’s strong comeback, he has proven his importance both on and off the girls, showing dedication, talent, and the heart of a true student athlete.
