Big Bucks, Big Screen Coming Soon!

Matthew Rivera and Jorge Sanchez

Hey Tigers, have you heard about the new big screen being installed in the main gym? If not, then we’ll happily fill you in on exactly what to be looking forward to this upcoming October.

After spending a bit of time talking to Mr. Joe Barcellos, athletics director about the board, he was very open to talking about the plans for it. When asked about the reasoning for wanting the board, he told us, “The idea for the screen is basically something to help our gym stand out, but also hopefully bring in dollars for the school. It also allows the possibility to play cool things like player introductions, game animations, etc for all sports played in the main gym.”

The plans for the screen has been about a two-year back and forth idea between Mr. Barcellos and the developer of the board, (who Mr. Barcellos had met at a conference). There are plenty of other developers, though Barcellos thinks that this particular company is better as far as “cost efficiency” goes.  The project is no small thing, and the price tag is no smaller. The board is going to cost a solid 25,000 dollars, with assistance coming from donations as well as sports booster clubs and ASB.

The screen has already been ordered and will be showing up anywhere between six to eight weeks, plus a one week installation. Mr. Barcellos said, “I’ve spoken to multiple schools who have the same board, and they’ve all been extremely pleased with the way things have been going.”

He told us the only concern is the bulbs for the screen, though other than that everything should work perfectly fine. He also added, “I expect the screen to be up and running long after I’ve retired.”

Above all things, the screen will be a real nice addition in the gym, assisting student athletes, as much as parents and friends will love seeing their favorites up on the screen. This will help raise the atmosphere and make people more interested in coming in to see games and support the Tiger nation.
