Los Banos High Hires Mental Health Help
September 7, 2018
Mrs. Katherine Reeves, a new mental health counselor at Los Banos High School, is here for students on Mondays and Tuesdays. She says that she wants to “make kids feel comfortable and safe” and “be able to reach out” to them by talking to them about anything she can help with.
Reeves also works at Creekside Junior High on Thursdays and Fridays and at San Luis High School on Wednesdays. Students can make an appointment with her by filling out a counselor request slip in the office and inputting “mental health” instead of “academics”, but soon there should be an electronic google request form for her services. She can also be reached directly by email at [email protected].
When asked what students can talk to her about, Reeves answered, “Absolutely anything they want. If they want to talk about stuff going on at home, their futures, academics; I can talk about those questions. If they want to talk about ninjas or zombies; I am open for anything.”
Reeves was born in the small town Los Gatos. It was her past experiences that led her to become what she is today. She was struggling emotionally during elementary school and junior high, and it was her counselors that helped get through that rough time. Now she wants to give back to students the way her counselors did for her. She loves to see the spark come back into someone’s life.
Our principal, Mr. Gurgen hopes that students will use this service if they need it, so that they can have the best experience at Los Banos High School. If the service proves to be helpful to even a few people, then the school might be able to get a mental health counselor that can be here full time.
Los Banos has been lacking in services regarding individual and family counseling. Mrs. Reeves is here to change that.
