From pineapple on pizza to French fries with whip cream, food combinations have always been a debate on whether they should be together, but what about chocolate mint ice cream?
Food combinations are not always so agreeable, and usually, they are seen as something whether disgusting or delicious. Let’s take a closer look at whether mint chocolate chip ice cream is a good combination.
First, believe it or not, there is background information relating to this dessert. “Mint chocolate chip ice cream was invented in 1973 by culinary student Marilyn Ricketts while studying at South Devon College in England. She entered a competition to provide an ice cream dessert for Princess Anne’s wedding to Captain Mark Phillips at Westminster Abby. The dessert was originally named Mint Royale” (KATIE, a flavorist). Ricketts even received a silver cup for her efforts.
Next, there are always global opinions about foods. As most consumers might know, many ice cream flavors and mixtures of the originals have always drawn attention, such as vanilla and strawberry or coconut with pineapple. After going through a Buzzfeed, an article titled, “I’m Sorry To Tell You That Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Is Gross” by Sam Stryker (Buzzfeed staff), a majority of comments seem to contradict the author. Overall, people like mint chocolate chip ice cream. Although there are a few critics who made their opinion known by saying the ice cream tastes like “toothpaste” or “soap,” there are those who are in favor complimented how good the combination of mint and chocolate tastes together.
With this information, I was interested in how my fellow peers feel about this type of ice cream. I created an anonymous survey with the question “Do You Like Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream?” After receiving the results, it seems that there were more students who likes chocolate mint ice cream than those that do not. The results are posted below.
