Mark Your Calendar and Your Appetite! National Pasta Day!

Lizeth Sanchez, Staff Reporter

Today, October 21, is National Pasta Day.  Did you know that pasta has been around for a long time?   Here’s a little about this holiday.

In 1279 A.D. Ponzio Bastone founded pasta.  A fun fact is the early Romans used a very simple dough consisting of water and flour. Also pasta is the Italian word for dough.

There are over 600 types of pasta and it’s eaten worldwide by many cultures. Thomas Jefferson introduced America to pasta in 1789. He brought the first pasta maker with crates of macaroni after he tried some in Naples, Italy.

Everyone worldwide celebrates this day.  Some restaurants even offer either bottomless pasta dishes or just a free bowl of pasta to enjoy this national day.
