Dog park opens in Los Banos

The city of Los Banos continues to grow throughout the years as new locals make this Central Valley their home.  New businesses and fast food restaurants spring up around town, but one new addition to our city is for the four legged kind.  The Los Banos Parks and Recreation department  opened its first Dog Park on April 19.  The park is located at the AG Sports Complex at 700 N. Mercey Springs Road.

With summer coming, this is the best time of the year to be outdoors and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere at this new location in which patrons can enjoy over 50 shade trees. There is plenty of room to social distance and enjoy the weather sitting under the trees or on the many benches, some shaped as dog bones, while your dog enjoys the sun and companionship with other dogs while being off the leash.

If you are not exactly familiar with the idea of a dog park there are some things you should know. There is an area that is reserved for small dogs under 30 pounds and a second area which is for larger dogs. The park also has water fountains in which pet owners can hydrate, as well as one for the dogs.

This is a big project that has been in the works for a while according to the Parks and Recreations Operations Manager in a document that was released. Once the cautionary rules due to COVID-19 are lifted, a public event will be planned for the celebration of this long awaited dog park project.

The park has been a success since its opening. Dogs were running around, socializing and enjoying the weather. Owners played with their pets and the dogs seemed to have a good reaction to this new environment. This is a great way to have your pet play with and meet with other dogs–social interactions are just as important for them as they are for us.

Make sure to check out the Los Banos Dog Park.
