Smile Movie Review

Smile+Movie+Review

Jacob Reyna, Reporter

The movie Smile released on September 30 of this year has been one of the best new horror movies that I have seen in quite some time. With a runtime of 1 hour and 55 minutes, the movie kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The movie itself was pretty entertaining.

However, the movie is pretty graphic. I have seen a lot of horror movies, but this one is by far one of the most gory. It is chilling and can be very unnerving to watch sometimes. The movie also includes suicide and other trauma, so if you are sensitive to things like that then this movie is not for you. I also don’t recommend watching this movie in front of young children.

The rest of this review will include spoilers so if you wish to watch the movie, watch it, then come back to read this review.

The movie is about a woman named Dr. Rose Carter who is a therapist. Rose has a patient named Laura Weaver. Laura ends up dying by her own hand while claiming to be possessed by an evil entity. All of this was done in front of Rose. Rose is obviously traumatized by this. This entity then possesses Rose who is constantly seeing Laura with a smile on her face. This entity also makes Rose look insane to her friends and family as they themselves cannot see what Rose is seeing.

Rose decides to get help from her ex Joel who is a detective. Joel learns about the link between the entity and people who commit suicide days after witnessing a suicide themselves. Rose and Joel learn of a man who survived the entity. This man is named Robert Talley. The way he survived was by killing someone. Rose contemplates this idea but knows she can’t go through with it. She then goes to her childhood home to wait out the entity so that the curse can’t be transferred to someone else. At the home, the entity appears to Rose and goes into her and makes her end herself. Joel arrives at the house and sees Rose end herself which then transfers the curse to him.

The movie definitely earns its rated R rating. The camera work and sound in this movie is amazing. The entire plot of the movie is also pretty good. If you appreciate movies with great camera work and good story writing, then you will definitely enjoy this movie.

Overall this movie was pretty good, although I saw the ending coming from a mile away. All in all, I recommend this movie to any horror movie lover like myself. Like I said though, the movie can be tough to watch sometimes.

If I had to rate this movie I would rate it a 7.8 out of 10.
